The Lover Novel by Marguerite Duras

The Lover (French: L'Amant), published in 1984, is a semi-autobiographical novel by French author Marguerite Duras. It is a fictionalized account of Duras's own experience as a young girl in colonial French Indochina in the 1920s, and it won France's most prestigious literary award, the Prix Goncourt, in the year of its publication.
The novel is narrated from the perspective of an older woman looking back on her adolescence. The story is told in a fragmented, non-linear style, mirroring the way memory is recalled.
